Dashboard
The dashboard provides a quick glimpse into your current finances and allows you to see if there are things you need to take action on.
Budget Stats shows you a general overview of what bills you should be focused on, be it ones that are past due, or ones that are coming due soon.
Spending at a Glance shows you a brief comparison of your spending habits by category for the current month and the previous month. This gives you the opportunity to review which areas of your budget may require more tightening.
Debt Info will show you your current Debt to Income ratio. This is just general information to give you an idea of what your current debt load looks like.
Budget
The Budget page is a cash flow or ledger representation of your money coming in and going out. It allows you to view and manage your monthly obligations while showing you what your available cash flow will be after your bills are paid for a specific pay period.
This allows you to address any issues before hand to prevent bigger problems in your budget. If you see you will be negative at the end of the next pay period before you are in that period, you will have more time to shuffle money around or plan which bills get paid to avoid your account going negative
This page is broken up into sections based off of your income. Each collapsable section is a representation of when you receive money either from your job or friends/family. If more than one income is recorded on the same day, the system combines them to make viewing the data easier.
There are alerts on each collapsable section that help you to quickly identify if you're all caught up on your bills, or if you might have some things that need your attention. If there is a checkmark on the left of the bar, that pay period is 100% paid. If you see a bell icon, that indicates you have pending or due items during that pay period that need to be taken care of.
If you have more than one bill due in a pay period, you will see a pencil icon on the right side of the section header immediately next to the collapse/expand icon as well as the full screen icon. When clicked, it will allow you to update all bills in that selected pay period at one time.
If you don't want to edit multiple bills at once, you can simply click the pencil icon of the bill that you wish to edit and a window will pop open with the associated bill information that you can make changes to.
Towards the top of the page, you have buttons that allow you to navigate to different months to view your bills in the past or in the future. You also have buttons that allow you to add a bill to just the current month, or you can add a recurring bill if you want that bill to be repeated.
NOTE:Because the Budget is based off your cashes, you must enter Income items on the Income page before the Budget will be displayed.
Income
This page is split into two sections: Recurring Incomes and Individual Incomes.
Individual Incomes would be income that you receive on an unpredictable basis. (IE you bought dinner and your friends gave you cash to cover their portion) You can track those types of incomes here.
Recurring Incomes are those that you get on a recurring basis. IE: Your paychecks, alimony, etc.
Our system is designed to handle a few of the most common frequencies of recurring incomes: Weekly, Bi-weekly, Bi-monthly, Monthly. Simply give the Recurring Income a meaningful title or name, enter the amount and select the begin/end dates you would like to have income generated for. Upon hitting save, Divvy My Dollars will auto create incomes at the requested frequency.
Once the recurring incomes are created, if your paycheck varied a few dollars on a certain pay period, simply click the pencil icon on the date of the check to update the information about that particular income.
Bills
The Bills page is split into two sections: Recurring and Annual.
Annual Bills are those that happen once a year. This is a great place to add things you tend to forget about like Tax preparation fees, renewing the tags on your vehicle, etc. Once the information is entered in for that bill, the bill will be automatically added to your Budget for the correct date. No more expired tags, yay!
Recurring Bills are bills that happen at different frequencies: Weekly, Monthly, or Every so often (you'll see this option as "Every X Weeks" in the Frequency drop down when creating a new bill).
- Weekly - when selected, you will be able to select which day of the week you wish the bill to be created for.
- Monthly - when selected, you will be able to enter which day of the month you wish the bill to be created for. Don't worry: if your bill is due on the 30/31 of the month, it won't be forgotten about in shorter months (we're looking at you, February). The date will be adjusted automatically for the months with fewer days.
- Every X - if you have bills that happen every 5 weeks, 3 weeks, etc. this is the option you would select. You will see a box where you can enter the number of weeks you want the bill to occur. Our system will take care of figuring out when the next occurrence of that bill is and add it to your budget accordingly.
Debts
The Debts page allows you a place to enter/view/manage any and all debts you wish to be mindful of in the system. When creating your account, we created some default Loan Types for you to get you started. The Debts page is split into different sections based on these Loan Types.
When adding a new Debt, you will be required to also select an associated Loan Type, so Divvy My Dollars knows which section to display your debt in.
Each section is collapsable and provides a quick overview of the debts you have entered, as well as the outstanding balance of that debt.
To view all associated payments and charges with a particular debt, simply click the Name of the debt and you will be redirected to the Debt Details page.
Divvy My Dollars does not have access to your bank or loan accounts and therefore cannot make any payments on outstanding debts on your behalf. The Debt/Debt Details pages are simply a way for you to track your debt and spending behaviors in one place.
Debt Details
This page allows you an overview of the activity you track associated with a particular debt. There are four different sections on this page: A details section which shows information you entered about the debt and three different sections to organize and display the payments and charges made on the debt.
Charges section is where you can add any charges/interest you would like to keep track of associated to this particular debt. The system will take the charges you enter and factor them into the oustanding balance of the debt.
Extra Payments section allows you to track any payments you may have made to that debt that didn't originate from your main account you do your budget with. A lot of people will have a main checking account that their paychecks go into and they pay bills out of regularly. But they may also have a separate savings account. If you have a little bit extra in that savings account and you make a payment directly to the debt from that account, you can track that here.
Budget Payments section shows you all the payments that are tied to that particular debt that are tracked on the Budget screen. If you have a car loan, you most likely have an associated monthly payment for that loan. When you create the Bill in the Bills page, you have the ability to associate that Recurring Bill with the specific car loan. Then, when that Bill is marked paid in the Budget, it will automatically deduct that amount from the outstanding balance on the car loan for you!
It is important to note that Divvy My Dollars does not automatically calculate the interest for each debt as each company calculates their interest a little differently. If you wish to track interest charges on your debt, you will have to add them on the Debt Details page.
Divvy My Dollars does not have access to your bank or loan accounts and therefore cannot make any payments on outstanding debts on your behalf. The Debt/Debt Details pages are simply a way for you to track your debt and spending behaviors in one place.
Loan Types
This page is where you can configure the different Loan Types that you want to keep track of in the system. Upon registering, we created some basic ones for you. Feel free to modify, add or remove any and all loan types!
Categories
This page is where you can configure the different Categories that you want to use for your Bills and Budget. We have created a few basic ones for you, but feel free to modify, add or remove any and all categories!
Notes
This page is a kind of virtual notebook. Maybe you have a Utilities bill that you pay quarterly and you can never remember the URL for the site you need to access to make a payment. This is a great place to add that information. Just do us a favor, don't store any sensitive info in here 'kay? (like your SSN, your physical address, etc.)
If you have a bunch of notes, you can filter them by Title to help narrow down what's displayed so you can focus on what you want to see.
If you want to update details of an existing note, simply click the Title of the Note and a window will pop open with the associated details for you to modify and save.
My Profile
Pretty self explanatory here. Displays information about when you signed up as well as when you last made a payment to use the system.
This page will allow you to update your basic demographic information (First and Last name, Username, Email address) as well as change your password, or subscribe or unsubscribe from our newsletter.
This is also where you'll find the Cancel Membership button (we hope you never have to click it!) Should you decide to cancel your memership, the system will ask you to specify a reason and once you've clicked submit, it will send your info to our payment processing merchant to cancel your subscription for you.
